The best BBQs we hear about from customers are the planned ones: the order placed in good time, the meat ready to go and the grill hot before anyone arrives. Here is how we would plan yours.
Your BBQ Planning Timeline
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Two weeks before | Get rough numbers and sort your grill and fuel |
| One week before | Place your meat order, sized to your guest list |
| The day before | Collect or take delivery, and get the meat into the fridge |
| On the day | Take the meat out 20 minutes before cooking and light the grill in good time |
Getting the Quantities Right
Allow 400g to 500g of raw meat per adult and 250g to 300g per child. Our full portion guide, how much BBQ meat per person, has the tables, or skip the maths with our BBQ hampers in 40, 100 and 120 piece sizes.
Food Safety at the Grill
- Keep raw meat chilled until it goes on the grill, and never leave it sitting in the sun.
- Use separate plates, boards and tongs for raw and cooked meat.
- Chicken, burgers and sausages must be cooked through, with no pink meat.
- Keep salads and sides covered and cool until serving.
